Campos Racing score double point finish at Silverstone

Italian Pulcini finished 6th twice in the frame of the British Grand Prix and makes further gains in the Drivers’ standings to strengthen third place. Menchaca and Laaksonen took 11th and 13th places over the course of the weekend

Campos Racing and Italian driver Leonardo Pulcini completed another strong weekend of results at Silverstone, which played host to Round 4 of the 2018 GP3 Series season. Pulcini made it into the points for a sixth time in a row and strengthens his third place in the Drivers’ standings on 73 points. Diego Menchaca and Simo Laaksonen couldn’t collect extra points but they both delivered promising performances for the remaining of the season.

Campos RacingIn qualifying, Pulcini and Laaksonen lined up ninth and tenth on the starting grid with their lap times of 1m46.790s and 1m46.871s. Menchaca took 12th spot with a lap time of 1m46.987s.

On Saturday, Pulcini made a great race start overtaking several cars to move up to seventh. A Virtual Safety Car was deployed due to an accident and, back into racing conditions, Laaksonen was also moving through the field moving past Jake Hughes and Giuliano Alesi. After a safety car period, Pulcini moved up to fifth at the expense of Dorian Boccolacci. Later, Boccolacci overtook Pulcini and the driver of Campos Racing finished 6th. Menchaca’s late charge made a quite few places to take 12th, ahead of his teammate Laaksonen.

Today, it was another action-packed race 2 at the beginning with less than 2 seconds covering the top four including Pulcini – who started from third on the grid-. Little by little, Pulcini was missing a bit of pace and dropped third places to take the checkered flag in sixth. Menchaca came 11th with Laaksonen 16th.

The GP3 Series will head to Hungaroring on 28-29 July, which will be the last before holiday break.
